Overview

This guide outlines the physical installation process for replacing a Homely v1 Hub with a v3 Hub. The procedure is straightforward and typically takes only a short time to complete. Please ensure all steps are followed carefully to ensure a successful switchover.

Tools Required

  • Wire cutters
  • Wire strippers
  • Crimping tool
  • Homely Installer app (available on iOS and Android)

Pre-Installation Checklist

  • Ensure the heat pump and Homely system are powered off.
  • Confirm access to the existing CAT5 cable.
  • Download and register on the Homely Installer app (required for setup and pairing).

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1.  Power Down the System
Switch off both the heat pump and the Homely controller before beginning any work.
  2. Cut the Existing CAT5 Cable
Using wire cutters, cut the CAT5 cable close to the current Homely unit.
  3. Prepare the Wires
    1. Strip back the outer insulation of the CAT5 cable.
    2. Identify the blue and white twisted pair, and strip the inner insulation.
Note: If different colours were used previously, confirm which pair was used for RS485.
  4. Crimp the Wires
Crimp the exposed twisted pair to ensure a clean and secure connection for the new hub terminals.
  5. Connect to the Hub v3
    1. Open the casing on the v3 Hub.
    2. Connect the blue wire to terminal B.
    3. Connect the other wire to terminal A.
Ensure connections are tight and correct to avoid communication issues.
  6. Use the Installer App for Setup
    1. Open the Homely Installer app.
    2. Follow the prompts to pair the node and connect the hub to Wi-Fi.
    3. Ensure the pairing is successful before proceeding.

Optional Components That May Have Been Installed with the Previous Homely Device

When replacing a Homely device, there may be additional components that were installed as part of the original setup. These are not included in every installation, but if present, please follow the steps below to ensure a clean handover or reinstallation:

    • Electricity meters:
These typically don’t present any issues during replacement. If an electricity meter was previously connected, you can reuse the existing CAT5 cable, which should help avoid additional installation work.

    • TTAP sensor:
This sensor may be found clipped onto the flow sensor wire inside the control box. If present, the clamp should be gently removed before installing the new device.

    • Power supply:
If the original Homely was powered via a dedicated supply, disconnect it from the power input terminals located at the bottom left of the control box before connecting the new unit.
