Homely’s dual zone operation is currently in open Beta, meaning it is still undergoing testing and refinement. While the feature is available to use, it is important to note that it may not perform optimally in all situations. As this is a Beta feature, there is an increased risk of system bugs, reduced efficiency, and compatibility issues with certain heat pump configurations. We strongly advise installers and users to proceed with caution and to contact Homely before attempting to configure a dual zone setup. This will help ensure your system is suitable and reduce the likelihood of disruption.
Supported Heat Pumps
At present, dual zone systems are supported with the following manufacturers:
-
Samsung
-
Midea
⚠️ Please note: Homely does not control zone-specific relays or pumps. Any dual zone configuration must be set up in accordance with the heat pump manufacturer’s own guidance. The zones must operate independently of Homely when it comes to pump and valve control.
Pre-Installation Requirements
Dual zone support is not yet officially launched due to ongoing testing.
-
Blending (mixing) valves must be wired and configured as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
-
A thermistor must be installed on the flow pipe after the mixing valve. This must be configured per the manufacturers instructions.
-
Contact Homely before installation to confirm system compatibility and to order a second Homely Temperature Node.
🛠️ Installer Setup Guide
-
Check compatibility
Refer to the heat pump manufacturer’s documentation to confirm dual zone control capability.
-
Order a second Temperature Node
Purchase an additional node from Homely.
-
Configure the system
During installation in the Homely Installer App, add a second node to represent the additional zone.
-
Use clear, unique names
Give each node a unique name to avoid command conflicts in the Homely app.
-
Final checks
Ensure the heat pump is correctly commissioned, check manufacturers guidance for commissioning guidance.
What the Homeowner Sees
After setup, both heating zones will appear in the Homely app. Homeowners can adjust each zone’s temperature individually.
💡 Managing Customer Expectations
-
Each zone is optimised independently by Homely.
-
The system does not account for shared airflows or thermal overlap between zones.
-
As a result, energy efficiency or cost savings may not be fully optimised, particularly where warm air from one zone affects another.
