Can my heat pump heat my home and water at the same time?

With Homely, you can schedule both heating and hot water to run simultaneously. However, your heat pump can only produce either heating or hot water at any given time. In most cases, the heat pump will prioritise hot water.

Typically, the system operates as follows:

  • If both heating and hot water are requested, and the hot water temperature is 5 to 10 degrees below its set point (depending on the heat pump’s settings), the heat pump will prioritise heating the hot water tank first. Once it reaches the set temperature, the heating will activate.
  • If both heating and hot water are requested, but the hot water temperature is within 5 to 10 degrees of its set point, the heating will remain on, and the hot water will only activate if the tank temperature drops further.

This ensures an efficient balance between maintaining heating and providing hot water when needed.
